HITBase is also open between 03.15pm and 04.30pm on Tuesdays, and between 01.00pm and 04.00pm on Fridays for students to take ECDL Tests.
As from Monday 25th June 2007, HITBase will be open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and following a 30 minute lunch break will open again from 1.00pm until 3.00pm. Fridays will remain as above.
Please note that as from Monday 25th June 2007, due to the welcome increase in the number of students using HITBase, you will need to book time on a computer for any future visits. This can be done when you attend HITBase, or alternatively you can call 0113 2710766 and ask for Debbie or Tony.
Please note that unfortunately, HITBase will be closed on Wednesday 20th June 2007 and Wednesday 4th July 2007. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.
HITBase currently offers two courses which offer you the chance to gain a qualification: Equal Skills and ECDL.
Equal Skills is designed for the absolute beginner and takes you through 4 short units:
- COMPUTER BASICS: which introduces you to such things as a mouse and keyboard.
- INTRODUCTION TO DESKTOP: which among other things shows you how to create a simple document.
- THE WORLD WIDE WEB: which introduces you to the Internet.
- EMAIL: which shows you how to set up an email account, and then how to send an email.
You will work through a short manual both with your tutor and, when you feel comfortable enough, by yourself. Everything is done at your pace, and once you've worked through the manual, it's yours to keep, AND you receive an Entry Level Qualification with a Certificate. There is no exam to sit.
If you are unemployed, tuition and the Manual at the end of the course are FREE. If you are employed, all we ask is £10 towards the cost of the Manual.
ECDL is an International Computer Skills Qualification. You study 7 Modules:
- Basic Concepts of IT and Computers.
- Using the Computer and File Management.
- Word Processing.
- Spreadsheets.
- Databases.
- PowerPoint Presentations.
- The Internet and Email.
You must take all 7 tests within a 3-year period. You study at your own pace, and as a rough guide you should allow for 40 - 50 hours study.
If you are unemployed, tuition and tests are FREE. If you are employed, all we ask is £20 towards the cost of your Log Book.
A tutor will be on hand at the above times to help you with your studies. You can come in any time we are open to study or practice by yourself.
We will give you "mock" tests beforehand if you like, so you know what to expect, and then you can decide if you want to go ahead and take a live test.
If you would ike any further information on either of these courses, please contact Tony through the details at the foot of this page, or call in when we are open.
